Coast Guard Sector Southeast Alaska is a multi-mission unit based in Juneau, Alaska. The command consists of over 300 Coast Guard active duty, reserve, civilian, and auxiliary personnel including eleven field commands and detachments. Sector Southeast Alaska’s personnel, under three main departments—Prevention, Response, and Logistics—provide a vital Coast Guard presence in four major Southeast Alaska communities, and conduct operations in more than 20 remote areas and Native villages across over 2,000 islands and 10,000 miles of shoreline.
Sector Southeast Alaska is located within the Tongass National Forest, the second largest rainforest in the world. This vast and challenging area of responsibility is home to critical resources, habitats, and communities reliant on maritime infrastructure, safety, and security. The region’s unique environment and natural beauty bring nearly 2 million cruise ship visitors on more than 650 annual cruise arrivals. Southeast Alaska’s fisheries also generate more than $130 million in revenue each year. With limited regional resources, Sector Southeast Alaska builds and maintains strong partnerships with local, state, federal, tribal, and industry stakeholders to support and serve the people and communities of Southeast Alaska.
