USCGC STORIS
The Coast Guard Cutter Storis the first icebreaker to enter U.S. military service in over two decades.
This medium icebreaker, boasting a length of 360 feet and a displacement of nearly 13,000 tons, is a formidable vessel. Equipped with four diesel engines generating 22,500 horsepower, Storis can navigate through three feet of ice at five knots, adding crucial capabilities to the Coast Guard's Arctic operations. Storis joins CGC Healy and CGC Polar Star, augmenting the Coast Guard’s current capabilities in the Arctic and carve its mark into the great ice of the Arctic seas, ensuring a continued U.S. presence in this vital region and underscoring our commitment to Arctic security and stewardship.
As a Coast Guard cutter, Storis is also a capable platform for supporting other missions in the polar regions, including logistics, search and rescue, ship escort, environmental protection, and enforcement of laws and treaties.
