USCGC HEALY

Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20), the largest vessel in the United States Coast Guard, conducts icebreaking operations throughout the Arctic region advancing national interests, improving maritime domain awareness, and supporting research activities.  Homeported in Seattle, WA and commissioned in 1999, she has reached the North Pole four times, most recently in 2022.

The ship is equipped with a technologically advanced sensors package, oceanographic winches, more than 4,200 square feet of mission-integrated research facilities, and accommodations for up to 50 mission-specific personnel in addition to the permanent crew of 85. Healy is designed to break 4.5 feet of ice continuously at three knots and can operate in temperatures as low as -50 F.

The Coast Guard has been operating in the Arctic region for more than 150 years. As one of the few military surface assets capable of operations in ice covered waters, Healy carries on this legacy, executing the Coast Guard missions and supporting the Joint Force in one of the world’s most remote and challenging operating environments.
