Command Master Chief

Master Chief Petty Officer Richard T. Griffin

Master Chief Petty Officer Richard T. Griffin assumed the duties as Command Master Chief for Port Security Unit 305 on June 27th, 2023. CMC Griffin is the Senior Enlisted Leader for the unit, serving as the primary advisor to the Commanding Officer on all enlisted personnel matters as well as providing counsel and guidance to enlisted personnel. 

Master Chief Griffin’s previous assignments include Senior Enlisted Reserve Advisor (SERA) CG Station Fort Myers Beach, D1 Incident Management Team, Port Security Unit 313, SERA CG Station San Juan, PACAREA, Port Security Unit 307, CG Station Fort Myers Beach, CG Station Woods Hole and Integrated Support Command Boston. 

Originally from Winthrop, MA, Master Chief Griffin enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in July 1999. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Transportation and is a proud graduate of the Chief Petty Officer Academy, Class 34 and the Senior Enlisted Leadership Course 79/80. Master Chief Griffin is also a graduate of several advanced specialty schools including Reserve Component National Security Course, Coast Guard Instructor Development Course, and the Joint Mission Fellowship Program. Additionally, Master Chief Griffin holds a National 3rd Mate Unlimited Oceans license.

Master Chief Griffin’s personal awards include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal (3 Awards), Army Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbon, all decorated with the Operational Distinguishing Device.  In addition to various other unit, campaign and service awards, he is decorated with the Navy Small Craft insignia, Navy Expeditionary Warfare insignia, Port Security Unit insignia, Boat Forces Operations insignia, Coxswain insignia and the Command Master Chief (Silver Badge) insignia.
