Command Chief: Chief Gregory R. Runo

Chief Culinary Specialist Gregory R. Runo is a native of Tallahassee, FL and is the youngest of two siblings. Chief Runo joined the Coast Guard in November of 2001, and was assigned to Integrated Support Command New Orleans after attending Food Service Specialist “A” School in Petaluma, CA in 2002. In 2004 he transferred to Pacific Area where he served as a Special Command Aide to the Pacific Area Commander for two years. In 2006, he transferred aboard USCGC VENTUROUS in Saint Petersburg, FL. Chief Runo then served as the Independent Duty Food Service Officer aboard USCGC KNIGHT ISLAND in 2007, USCGC OCRACOKE in 2008 both based out of Saint Petersburg, FL and later USCGC BLOCK ISLAND in 2009 based out if Atlantic Beach, NC. In 2011 he transferred to Training Center Petaluma, Morale, Welfare and Recreation where he managed multiple MWR businesses on base. In 2013 CSC Runo transferred to the first WMSL Support Team at Pacific Area based in Alameda, CA providing qualified inport watchstander and temporary duty support to USCGC WAESCHE, USCGC STRATTON and USCGC BERTOLF. In 2015 he transferred aboard USCGC STINGRAY based in Mobile, AL where he earned his permanent Cutterman’s Pin and served as the Independent Duty Food Service Officer. Chief Runo next became a plank owner to Culinary Support Activity Yorktown at Training Center Yorktown, VA where he served as a Contracting Officer Representative, $25k Contracting Warrant and a Team Lead. He currently serves as the Food Service Officer aboard CGC ACTIVE based in Port Angeles, WA.

Some of his awards include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, Unit Commendation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Team Commendation, and Cutterman’s Pin.
