Executive Officer: Lieutenant Commander Mike Mastrianni

Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Mike Mastrianni assumed the role of ACTIVE’s Executive Officer in June 2022.

Born and raised in Granville, NY, LCDR Mastrianni graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2007 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Management. LCDR Mastrianni began his career in 2007, serving as a Deck Watch Officer and Support Department Head aboard USCGC RELIANCE in Kittery, ME. He has since served in three afloat command cadre positions including Executive Officer of USCGC WRANGELL, forward deployed to Manama, Bahrain from 2009 to 2010, Commanding Officer of USCGC MARLIN located in Fort Myers Beach, FL from 2010 to 2012, and Operations Officer of USCGC ACTIVE from 2016-2018.

LCDR Mastrianni has executed a wide-variety of missions at sea, to include Counter-Drug Interdiction Operations, Migrant Interdiction Operations, Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security Operations, Living Marine Resource enforcement, Public Affairs, Recreational Boater Safety, and Search and Rescue.

LCDR Mastrianni balances his afloat tours with shoreside-based force readiness positions. After receiving his Master’s Degree in Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island in 2013, he served as the Commanding Officer of the Southeast Regional Fisheries Training Center (SRFTC) in Charleston, SC. From 2018 to 2022, he served as the Force Readiness Command’s Training Manager and Performance Consultant to the US Coast Guard’s Offices of Cutter Forces (CG-751), Maritime Law Enforcement (CG-MLE), Intelligence (CG-2), and Investigative Services (CGIS). During this tour, he also earned his Master’s in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning from Boise State University.

In addition to several military awards, LCDR Mastrianni holds certifications as a Performance Technologist (CPT) from the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) and workplace Instructional Design from Boise State University. LCDR Mastrianni resides in Sequim, WA with his wife Emily and two children, Graham and Hannah.
