Lieutenant Commander Ben Hinchman

Lieutenant Commander Ben Hinchman reported aboard CGC Active as the Executive Officer in May 2024.

LCDR Hinchman reported to Active after being the final Executive Officer onboard CGC Steadfast as part of the decommissioning crew.

A Permanent Cutterman, LCDR Hinchman’s previous afloat assignments include Commanding Officer of CGC Steelhead and CGC Sturgeon preventing illegal fishing along the Maritime Boundary Line with Mexico, Operations Officer onboard CGC Wrangell conducting defense operations and international engagements while forward-deployed in the Persian Gulf, and as a Deck Watch Officer onboard CGC Vigilant patrolling throughout the Caribbean Sea.

LCDR Hinchman’s previous staff assignment was at the District 17 Enforcement Branch in Juneau, Alaska, as the Major Cutter Manager and as part of the Domestic Fisheries Enforcement section. He was responsible for coordinating fisheries enforcement and defense operations across a 3.8 million square mile area of responsibility, strategic mission planning, synchronizing operations, and managing logistics coordination.

LCDR Hinchman graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. In 2019, he earned a Master’s of Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island. In 2022, he earned a Joint Professional Military Education (JPME-1) diploma from the U.S. Naval War College. LCDR Hinchman was born in Rochester, New York, raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and married to Tiffany Montemayor of Corpus Christi, Texas.
