An U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak member and his wife welcomed their son Percival, the micro preemie, to the world at only 22 weeks and 2 days gestation last January. “The youngest baby ever to survive was about 21 weeks and 4 days. We were told Percival was about the 5th youngest baby ever to be born in Alaska...”- Courtney, Percival's mother. The family has since moved to U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and Percival is getting stronger each day. #OTD 1994: The Coast Guard icebreaker Polar Sea and the Canadian Coast Guard Ship S. Ste Laurent became the first North American surface ships to reach the North Pole. An HH-65A from U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, detached to the Polar Sea, became the first U.S. helicopter to reach the pole as well.

U.S. Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco rescued 2 people after a plane crashed in Half Moon Bay, CA. NBC Bay Area shares video from the rescue. "The second pilot's quick response to report the downed plane and remain on scene greatly aided the Coast Guard's prompt response and ability to save two lives," said Lt. Cmdr. Happy #NationalAviationDay! Do you know what an enlisted ancient albatross is? Master Chief Petty Officer Kit Harris does! He was the rating force master chief of the aviation maintenance technician rate, and in this photo Harris went on his final flight as the Coast Guard’s enlisted ancient albatross. #OTD in 2005: United States Coast Guard Barque EAGLE helped to rescue nearly 100 West African migrants who were found drifting in a disabled vessel 35 miles off the south coast of Tenerife, Canary Island.

U.S. Coast Guard Southeast, in coordination with 104 partner agency units from several federal, state and local agencies, conducted a maritime law enforcement operation last weekend from Carteret County, North Carolina, to Brevard County, Florida covering more than 500 miles of coastline! Operation SHRIMP and GRITS, which stands for "Save Harbor Reach on Intelligence for Multi-state Partnerships and Guarding Responsible Interests for Target Safety" focused on the education and enforcement of boating safety and maritime security throughout the Southeast. Maintaining and strengthening mission excellence is a key priority for Coast Guard units. Sector San Diego demonstrated such excellence during a search and rescue demonstration in conjunction with Movie Night Aboard the USS Midway Museum last weekend.
