Captain Stephen V. Burdian

Captain Stephen V. Burdian reported aboard USCGC MELLON (WHEC 717) after serving as the Enlisted Assignments Branch Chief at the Coast Guard Personnel Service Center in Washington, DC.

He has ten years of sea duty including tours as Commanding Officer USCGC VALIANT (WMEC 621) in Mayport, Florida, Executive Officer USCGC RESOLUTE (WMEC 620) in Saint Petersburg, Florida, Commanding Officer USCGC PADRE (WPB 1328) in Key West, Florida, Executive Officer USCGC MAUI (WPB 1304) in Miami Beach, Florida, and Deck Watch Officer and First Lieutenant aboard USCGC STORIS (WMEC 38) in Kodiak, Alaska.

Captain Burdian’s assignments ashore include serving as the Maritime Operations Specialist for Counternarcotics and Counter Illicit Trafficking for the Caribbean, Central and South America at United States Southern Command in Doral, Florida, serving as the Afloat and Special Assignments Assignment Officer at the Coast Guard Personnel Command in Arlington, Virginia, and as a Law Enforcement/Search and Rescue Coordinator for the Seventh Coast Guard District in Miami, Florida.

Captain Burdian is a 1994 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.  Additionally, he earned his Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management in 2005 from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals with the operational distinguishing device, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals with the operational distinguishing device, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal with the operational distinguishing device, the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation with the operational distinguishing device and various other personal and unit awards.
